About this piece

Planishing is the oldest finish in the trade and the hardest to fake. Each facet is a single hammer blow onto a polished stake, and the surface is finished the moment the last blow lands — there is no sanding afterwards, because sanding would flatten exactly the thing that makes it catch light.

The result is a surface that never reads the same twice. Under a hard light it fractures; under a soft one it glows. Three days of hammer work, and the piece cannot be repeated.

The cognac stone is flush-set so nothing protrudes above the surface — a ring meant to be worn every day and knocked about without consequence.
