Client care

Care, sizing, shipping

Everything we make is serviced for life. Here is what that covers and how to look after a piece between visits.

Lifetime servicing

Annual inspection, ultrasonic and steam cleaning, re-polishing and prong checks are included forever on anything we make, for whoever owns it. Bring a piece in once a year and it will outlive all of us. This is the single best way to avoid losing a stone.

Cleaning at home

Warm water, a drop of plain washing-up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Brush the back of the stone, not the front — that is where the film of hand cream and skin oil sits, and it is the reason a diamond looks flat three weeks after you buy it. Do it over a bowl, not an open drain.

Avoid ultrasonic cleaners on emeralds, opals, pearls and treated stones. Avoid chlorine, which attacks gold alloys over time. Avoid toothpaste, which is mildly abrasive despite what the internet says.

Sizing and resizing

First resize within twelve months is free. After that it is charged at cost. Full eternity bands cannot be resized — there is nowhere to take metal from — so we size those especially carefully and will ask you to wear a sizing ring for a fortnight before we cut anything.

Fingers change size by up to half a size across a day and considerably more across a summer. We size to a mid-morning measurement in a normal room.

Shipping and returns

Insured, signature-required shipping within the United States is included. International delivery is arranged case by case. We prefer to hand over important pieces in person and will travel within reason to do it.

Finished pieces from the collection may be returned within 30 days in original condition for a full refund. Commissioned pieces are made to one person's specification and cannot be returned, which is exactly why the process has so many approval points before anything is cut.

Valuations and insurance

Every piece leaves with an insurance valuation at replacement cost. We will reissue it free whenever your insurer asks, and we recommend updating it every three years.
