The commission

Five conversations, then eleven weeks

You will speak to the person who makes the piece. Not a sales floor, not a configurator — the bench.

The conversation

Ninety minutes, in the atelier or by video. We talk about the wearer rather than the budget — how they use their hands, what they already own, what they would never wear. You leave with sketches, not a quote.

Week 1

The stone

We source against your brief and present three to five candidates with full certification and provenance. You see them loose, under the same light we will set them in, before any metal is cut.

Weeks 2–4

Design and approval

Drawings and, where it helps, a wax or printed model you can put on a hand. Nothing is cut until you have held something. This is the last easy moment to change your mind, and people often do.

Week 5

The bench

Forging, setting, and nine stages of finishing — photographed at each stage and sent to you. If something needs to change at week seven, it changes at week seven.

Weeks 6–11

The handover

Delivered in person where we can, with its certificate, its insurance valuation, and a lifetime servicing record opened in your name.

Week 12

Questions we are always asked

Before you begin

How much should I expect to spend?

Silver and gold pieces without significant stones run $800–$6,000. Diamond jewellery with smaller stones, $4,000–$12,000. Engagement rings with a certified centre stone, $8,000–$30,000. Above that we are into exceptional stones. Tell us a real number and we will design to it.

Do I pay for the first meeting?

No. The consultation, sketches, and sourcing and presenting stone candidates are all free and carry no obligation. If we cannot find you a stone you love, you owe us nothing.

Can you work with a stone or a piece I already own?

Often, and it is some of the most satisfying work we do. We will assess the stone first — older cuts sometimes have chips at the girdle that need addressing before resetting.

What if I do not like it?

You will have seen the stone loose, held a model, and received photographs at every stage, so genuine surprises are rare. If something is wrong at handover we put it right at our cost.

Do you ship?

Insured and signature-required within the US, included. International by arrangement. We prefer to hand over important pieces in person and will travel within reason to do it.

We take a limited number each season so every piece gets the bench time it needs.
