Aurelia Solitaire
$18,400
A 1.80ct round brilliant held clear of the finger — the shank tapers from 2.6mm at the shoulder to 1.7mm beneath, so the stone appears to sit on air.

About this piece
The whole piece is an argument about how little metal a stone needs. Most solitaires are built for reassurance: a heavy shank, a deep basket, six prongs thick enough to see from across a room. Aurelia goes the other way. The shank is forged rather than cast, which lets it run to 1.7mm under the finger without losing rigidity, and the basket is cut away until the pavilion of the stone is visible from the side.
Platinum is the only metal that behaves at these dimensions. It work-hardens as it is forged, so the band gets stronger the more it is worked, and it holds a prong under load for decades rather than years. The trade-off is time — platinum is slow to cut, slow to polish, and unforgiving of a mistake at the setting stage.
The stone was chosen before a single millimetre of metal was cut, and the setting was built to it.
