About this piece
Raising is the process of driving flat metal into a three-dimensional form with nothing but a hammer and a stake. It is slow, it work-hardens the silver as it goes, and it has to be annealed and started again perhaps a dozen times before the form is right.
The reward is density. A raised cuff has a heft that a cast one cannot match at the same wall thickness, and it rings when you tap it.
The taper is deliberately asymmetric — heavier on the outer wrist than the inner. That small imbalance is what stops the cuff rotating through the day without needing a clasp to hold it.
